Craftland

‘Craftland – Preservation of cultural heritage of the South Baltic Region’ is a three-year cultural project part-financed by the European Union within South Baltic Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013.

The project is implemented in partnership with the City of Silute in Lithuania and Foteviken Museum in Sweden. Our aim is to intensify intercultural dialogue and engage local communities in cross-border activities. There are three types of events, one a year in each partner city, organized within the project.

In 2012 there was the Folk and Crafts Festival in Silute where Pruszcz Gdański was represented by old music ensemble ‘Grupa Radnyna’, which was very warmly welcomed.

The first City Tournament in Pruszcz Gdański also took place. Teams from Silute and Foteviken competed with our representatives in disciplines such as: riding a bike, fishing for amber, archery, throwing a log, sawing a log and tug of war. Apart from sport attractions there were many types of historical workshops, old crafts presentations, plebeian games, culinary heritage, falconry and performances for children.

In September the representatives of Pruszcz Gdański visited the Foteviken Museum in Sweden to take part in Festival Market. Craftsemn from Poland, Lithuania and Sweden presented their skills in different types of crafts. The workshops turned out to be very interesting for the audience visiting the Festival. Craftsmen from our city built a clay pottery oven basing on experimental archaeology and also presented historical, natural methods of dyeing fabric. They also had an opportunity to watch the skills of craftsmen from partner regions.

This year Festival Market travels to Lithuania while Folk and Crafts Festival takes place in Pruszcz Gdański and teams compete during City Tournament in Sweden. Such an exchange creates a great opportunity to get to know the cultural heritage of the partners as well as present one’s own achievements and exchange experiences.

We would like to invite everybody to Folk and Crafts Festival that takes place on 8 June 2013 in the International Baltic Cultural Park in Pruszcz Gdański. We are going to host old and folk music groups from Lithuania and Sweden as well as Polish artists. There will also be many other attractions waiting for our visitors. The detailed programme will be available soon.
